Exult assisted Kimley-Horn and Virginia DOT with the I-95 and I-64 Corridor Studies. Exult’s role on the project was to perform three camera optimization studies with a goal of increasing camera coverage to 100% along I-64 and I-95 in urban areas in Virginia. Exult collected and reviewed camera coverage data along the corridors to develop preliminary mapping of current coverage areas and determined areas with an absence of coverage. Multiple site visits were conducted as part of this project, flying a drone to evaluate new camera locations, and assessing extended camera pole heights as needed along the corridors.
Recommendations were made to retain or remove redundant cameras, extend pole heights for increased coverage, and identify trees to be trimmed for optimal views. Final deliverables included GIS Mapping of current and proposed camera coverage areas, a database file with all pertinent camera information, and a photo database of each existing and proposed camera view.
